Community Based Orphan Care

Orphan Crisis

Malawi is a sub-Saharan African country, which lies on the eastern side of the continent. Small, landlocked, and stricken by poverty, it is home to about 11 million people, of which approximately 10% are orphans or vulnerable children. In this context “orphan” refers to a child who has lost one or both parents and a “vulnerable child” is one whom community leaders deem to be at greatest risk.

Orphan children are typically either taken in by relatives, often a grandmother who is herself struggling to survive, or left on their own to fend for themselves. Because of their circumstances, they are at the very bottom of the life-support chain.

Miqlat's Response to the Crisis

Miqlat has established a community-based orphan care program, “Feed My Lambs” (FML), to mitigate the problems of the orphaned community in the rural village of Kogoya, Malawi.

Each child is supported by a $35.00 monthly sponsorship. FML currently cares for 350 orphans who are having their physical and spiritual needs met every day in an environment of warm, nurturing, Christian love.

Sponsoring a Child

When you sponsor a child for $35.00 a month, you will enable us to provide regular balanced meals, health and hygiene, school expenses, tutoring (without education these children are guaranteed a life of poverty), and daily after-school Christian instruction.

Upon sponsorship of a child, you will receive a photo and short biography of your child. You will be able to send written communications to your child, and he/she will send a response to you.

Choose an orphan to sponsor now by using our secure Sponsorship Page.
